FIRST Tech challenge

FIRST Tech Challenge teams (up to 15 team members, grades 7-12) are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format.

Guided by adult coaches and mentors, students develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles, while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and working as a team.

After completing firstinspires.org registration, teams pay a SC FTC team registration fee of $300 to cover their participation in South Carolina FTC events. For more information on participation policies, review the SC FTC Participation and Registration Policy

2023-2024 Challenge CENTERSTAGE

On September 9th, 2023, the season challenge, CENTERSTAGE presented by RTX will be announced. FIRST® Tech Challenge teams will raise the curtain on the power of design, creativity, and precision to create all new experiences.

Start a Team

FIRST Tech Challenge teams design and build a robot using a reusable kit of parts and compete within a common set of game rules to play an exciting field game and complete the specific season challenge. The robot game changes every season and is always a blast!

Student and adult team members are encouraged to bring any skills they already have, like programming, electronics, metalworking, graphic design, web creation, public speaking, videography, and many more. FIRST Tech Challenge welcomes every student, with or without special skills.

FIRST Tech Challenge Class Packs

Bring computational thinking and the engineering design process to life with this robust robotics engineering curriculum where students will create a robot and utilize tools for self-growth in technical skill development and design.

In this year-long course, students will be immersed in completing a project that connects STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) topics to the real-world. Using the interactive curriculum, educators, and facilitators will guide students through the course and help them build teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Each semester of the course culminates in an event where students present what they've learned and use their robot to compete in a class mini-game based on the current season’s competitive challenge.

What’s included with your FIRST Tech Challenge Class Pack Registration:

  • FIRST® Thinkscape Learning Management System Access: Digital lesson plans and curriculum access from August 2023 – September 2024.

  • Year-long Robotics Curriculum including:

    • Teacher lessons with team activities to coordinate with online learning.

      1. Interactive student learning modules

      2. Engineering Notebook Templates

      3. Rubrics for assessing the engineering notebook, career readiness, and robot design

      4. Integrated physics simulations

      5. Student knowledge checks and assessments

  • Mini Game Kit: Manual and replica 8 x 8 playing field with two alliance zones based on the 2023-2024 competitive season game, CENTERSTAGE presented by Raytheon Technologies.

  • Digital Student Badges through Tallo: Earned by students as they demonstrate skills and competencies.
