Opening Ceremony Special Guests
Kim Christ, Director of SC Tech at the SC Council on Competitiveness (SC Competes) will showcase the new AI-enabled robotic education and career awareness tool that will be available for scheduled visits in the 2023-2024 school year – a Boston Dynamics “Spot” robotic dog purchased by SC Competes and the SC Department of Commerce. While “Spot” was built to support companies in industrial applications, such as automated inspections and data capture, the SC Competes team and partners will travel with “Spot” to schools and communities around South Carolina to show off the future of Artificial Intelligence, Industry 4.0 (and beyond!) technology, and other STEM-related career paths. Students at the FIRST Robotics event will be able to see this impressive robot in action, and students all across the state will have the opportunity to give “Spot” a new name with the launch of the SC Competes Spot Naming Competition.
